Stakeholders meet to address cable cuts and internet disruptions

Goa Khabar : Chief Minister of Goa, Dr. Pramod Sawant, convened a stakeholders’ meeting in the presence of Minister for Information Technology, Electronics & Communications, Rohan Khaunte, Chief Secretary of Goa, Dr. V. Candavelou, IAS and officials from the Public Works Department (PWD), Electricity Department, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and the Department of Information Technology, Electronics & Communications (DITE&C) to address frequent cable cuts and internet disruptions affecting businesses, educational institutions and administrative blocks across the state.

During the meeting, the Hon’ble Chief Minister directed the Electricity Department to refrain from cutting cables without prior approvals and instructed them to coordinate closely with the Department of Information Technology, Electronics & Communications. He further emphasised that advance notice must be given before conducting any such activity and to ensure strict safety and security protocols. 

The Chief Minister also advised DITE&C to make provisions for underground duct infrastructure and directed the Electricity Department not to carry out cable cuts for a period of one year until the required infrastructure is laid. It was further suggested that underground ducts be utilised in areas where such facilities already exist.

The meeting concluded with a collective commitment from all stakeholders to work in close coordination and take swift corrective measures to minimise disruptions, safeguard digital infrastructure and ensure seamless internet connectivity across the state.
