Goa Khabar : The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Goa today welcomed the start of pothole filling work on the Tuem IDC Road, just three days after AAP leader Suvarna Harmalkar exposed its pathetic condition through a live video on November 1st. However, the party has demanded that the government fully recarpet the road instead of relying on temporary jetpatcher repairs, which do not last long and result in wastage of public funds.
Speaking from the site, Suvarna Harmalkar said, “We had done a live from this very road on November 1st demanding urgent repair. Within three days, the government has started filling potholes using a jetpatcher machine — it shows the power of people’s voice. While we welcome this quick response, this patchwork is not enough. Crores worth of tenders have already been issued for road works in Pernem taluka. When will that money be used to recarpet the entire road properly?”
Harmalkar slammed the government for making hollow promises and questioned the Chief Minister’s 15-day assurance. “The CM had said he would repair all roads in 15 days. Is this the kind of repair he meant? If the government wants to do only patchwork, then why are crores being spent on road contracts? This is just a quick-fix solution, but not long term”
She further warned that jetpatcher work is only a temporary measure and cannot withstand Goa’s heavy rains. “These jetpatcher patches get damaged in one spell of rain. They don’t last and end up wasting public money. We demand that the Tuem IDC road and other major roads in Pernem be fully recarpeted to ensure long-term durability and safety.”
The AAP leader added that people’s pressure and public accountability are forcing the government to act, but Goans deserve quality roads, not short-term cosmetic fixes.
AAP reaffirmed that it will continue to monitor the ongoing works and, if needed, launch protests to ensure that taxpayers’ money is not wasted on patchy, unsustainable repairs.
