Goa Khabar : Speaking to the media today, MLA Viresh Borkar of the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) issued a strong statement calling for the preservation of Goa’s traditional taxi industry and the protection of Goan livelihoods. He highlighted that the local taxi business is one of the few remaining sectors that remains in the control of Goans and plays a vital role in both the state’s economy and tourism.

“Our traditional Taxikars are not just service providers—they are the original faces of Goan hospitality. Their connection with tourists begins the moment visitors arrive in the state. This is a proud, generational profession that needs to be safeguarded,” said Borkar.

Expressing concern over the increasing push for app-based taxi services, Borkar warned that such models threaten to displace local taxi operators and hand over control of a traditional Goan industry to non-Goans and corporate players.

“We are completely against the entry of app-based taxi services that are not rooted in Goa. These platforms open the door for outsiders to come in, take over the business, and marginalize our Goan Taxikars. We cannot allow that to happen,” he stated.

He urged the youth of Goa to take pride in this legacy and continue the work of their forefathers in running and modernizing the local taxi business, rather than allowing external models to dominate and disrupt local livelihoods.

“We want our Goan youth to carry this business forward. It is not just about jobs—it’s about preserving our identity, our economy, and our self-reliance. Let us invest in strengthening what is ours instead of surrendering it to outside interests,” Borkar affirmed.

MLA Viresh Borkar reiterated the Revolutionary Goans Party’s full support for the traditional taxi community and pledged to continue advocating for policies that protect Goan interests in the face of growing external influence.
