Goa Khabar : The Goa College of Home Science made a significant impact at the Science and Innovation Expo, held during the Science Film Festival of India (SCI FFI) on January 29th and 30th, 2025. Organized by Vidnyan Parishad Goa, a Science Movement with a Swadeshi Spirit, the expo provided a platform for students to showcase their knowledge and creativity.
Under the expert guidance of Assistant Professor Suman Gosavi, students specializing in Food, Nutrition, and Dietetics set up an engaging and informative nutrition exhibition. The College was allotted two stalls, featuring diverse exhibits aimed at promoting healthy dietary habits and traditional Goan food culture.
The highlight of the exhibition was a meticulously crafted Food Pyramid model, displayed with actual food items, offering visitors a tangible representation of balanced nutrition. Additionally, digital posters showcasing dietary guidelines for Indians, interactive nutrition games, and an array of Goan indigenous food items with detailed nutritive values, common names, and local names were presented. To add a creative touch, students also exhibited hand-painted t-shirts and tote bags with nutrition-related themes.
The exhibition drew an overwhelming response from the attendees, particularly school and college students, as well as the general public. The Food Pyramid display and indigenous food items section attracted significant attention, sparking discussions on traditional nutrition and healthy eating habits. Visitors appreciated the effort and dedication of the students in effectively communicating complex nutrition concepts in an engaging manner.
This participation not only enhanced the students’ knowledge but also honed their communication skills, as they interacted with diverse audiences and conveyed crucial dietary information. The initiative was a commendable step towards spreading nutrition awareness and reinforcing the importance of a balanced diet in daily life.
