Goa Konkani Akademi to give ‘Konkani Knowledge Certificate’ from 1st Jan 2025

Goa Khabar : A Konkani Knowledge Certificate can be a valuable tool to recognize and promote the language and culture of Konkani. Not everyone has had the opportunity to receive basic education through Konkani or to learn Konkani as a subject at various levels of education. Many of those who have not received it may wish to test their knowledge of Konkani and obtain a certificate. To create such facility, Goa Konkani Akademi has decided to issue Konkani Knowledge Certificate, said Vasant Sawant, President and Dattaraj Naik, Research Assistant of the Akademi.

The Government of Goa/Central Government has made knowledge of Konkani as essential requirement for various posts in the administration. The Government accepts the certification of the Goa Konkani Akademi in that regard. Keeping in view the needs of the candidates, the Akademi was conducting written and oral tests and if passed, the applicant will be awarded a Konkani Knowledge Certificate within just one day, said Vasant Sawant. The Government notification will be issued within the next few days. He also said that he has sought the Government’s approval that Goa Konkani Akademi will be the authorized body of the Government to issue Knowledge Certificates.

Goa Konkani Akademi will conduct the certification examination from 1st January 2025. As part of that preparation, the curriculum has been designed with objectives for exam. The Akademi receives the assistance of experienced experts in the field academic education. The tentative syllabus for the examination has been prepared. In the mean time Akademi will form a Curriculum Committee and an Examination Committee to carry out this initiative, Vasant Sawant said.

Knowledge will be tested based on all four language skills ‘ Listening , Speaking , Reading and Writing For obtaining the Konkani Knowledge Certificate, the applicant must apply in the format prescribed by the Akademi. Valid 15 years residence certificate issued by the mamlatdar must be submitted. Also have to submit educational certificates, photo identity card issued by a Government authority, to verify skills written and oral tests will be conducted. The Akademi will charge Rs. 200 for the process, said Dattaraj Naik, research assistant of the Akademi.

There will be no examination for those who have obtained passing marks in Konkani subject at 10th, 12th, Graduate and Post Graduate levels. They will be given a knowledge certificate by just checking their marks. Others who do not have Konkani subject will have to take written and oral tests to obtain certificates, he said.
