Governor of Kerala, Arif Mohammad Khan to speak on ‘Bharatiyata’ at ICG on April 6
Goa Khabar: Arif Mohammad Khan, the Governor of Kerala will speak on the topic of “Bharatiyata” ( Indianness) at the International Centre Goa (ICG) in the city at 1730 hrs ( 530pm) on Thursday, April 6, 2023. The event is open and free to all.
The talk is being organised jointly by the International Centre Goa and Bika Utsav. Bika Utsav is a popular festival of music, culture, literature and political thought organised in Bikaner, Rajasthan by the noted impresario and media expert, Anil Gupta.
Addressing a media conference in the city on Monday to announce this event, Anil Gupta said, “A civilised form of discussion is not happening on the subject of ‘Bharatiyata’.
Bharatiyata is a very important subject in these difficult times in our country and there is a need for civilised discussion on the same.”
According to Gupta, the idea behind organising this talk was to enable Indians to freely express their views on what this concept means to them via the method of “Sabya-Sanvaad” ( civilised discourse).
Yatin Kakodkar, president, ICG who also spoke on the occasion said that the honourable governor was no stranger to the ICG and Goa. “The Honourable Governor has been an active participant in the “Difficult Dialogues” events that have been held regularly at the ICG in recent years. The Governor is a very learned and articulate speaker and we are looking forward to his talk,” Kakodkar said.
Khan, a former Congress union cabinet minister had famously quit the Late Rajiv Gandhi’s cabinet in 1986 as he was in disagreement over his party’s stand on the Shah Bano case. Khan had supported the Supreme Court of India’s judgement in the Shah Bano case to make the right to maintenance of a divorced Muslim wife absolute.
Khan, is the author of the best selling book of the year 2010, “Text and Context: Quran and Contemporary Challenges” and is also a Sanskrit scholar .
