Goa Khabar: Expressing confidence in the local leadership, AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday, during PAC meeting, said that his party is open to alliances with like-minded parties to defeat the corrupt and destructive BJP.

He said that the large turnout at the meeting held in Verna on Monday clearly shows that the people of Goa want change.

“Our doors for alliance are open. This is the public sentiment, which we want to act upon in the interest of the people. Like-minded political parties should be welcomed to join the alliance to defeat the BJP and its corrupt rule,” Leader of Opposition (Rajya Sabha) Mr. Kharge said while addressing the Political Affairs Committee meeting on Tuesday.

AICC Incharge Manickrao Thakare, Dr. Anjali Nimbalkar, GPCC President Girish Chodankar, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, MLA Altone D’Costa, MLA Carlos Ferreira, M. K. Shaikh, Capt Viriato Fernandes, Eduardo Faleiro, Francisco Sardina, District Presidents, Frontal Chiefs and others were present.

During the meeting, Mr. Kharge said that the Congress party is open to alliances with like-minded political parties against the BJP.

“There is also public sentiment that, despite the destruction of the state, the BJP is benefitting by creating religious tensions and dividing people. This time we will not allow them to snatch power against the wishes of the people,” he said.

He added that the people of Goa are fighting against the BJP government, and hence Congress and Opposition parties must stand with them.

“Congress party is supporting people who are agitating in the state for their rights. I am told by the activists and NGOs, that there is no place in Goa where this government has not set its sights on destruction. They have earned a lot from land deals and conversions. If this continues, then people of the state will have no value in their own state. People should not to allow land conversions,” he said, adding Congress party will stand with people who are trying to save their villages from destruction.

“Over the last fourteen years of BJP’s rule, the people of Goa, including Congress supporters, have suffered greatly. This government has tried to suppress our voice. You need to learn to tolerate for the larger good and to sacrifice for the people of Goa. No doubt our workers are doing this, and I am confident that their patience will yield results with the support of the people,” Mr. Kharge pointed out.

He urged the people to connect with the ideology of Congress, which speaks of togetherness and oneness.

“We are not here to divide and rule or suppress the voice of the people. Our governments in the past have shown courage to revoke decisions and scrap projects that were protested by the people,” Mr. Kharge said during the meeting.

Mr. Kharge also asked local leadership to continue talks over alliances and unite to protect the interests of the state.
