Drishti Marine Lifesavers Rescue 24 Fishermen from Drowning in Two Separate Incidents Off South Goa Coast

Goa Khabar: In a day of dramatic rescues, Drishti Marine lifesavers saved 24 fishermen from drowning in two separate incidents off Colva and Benaulim beaches on Tuesday, after two fishing canoes capsized in rough sea conditions. In both incidents, coordinated rescue operations involving Drishti Marine lifesavers and jet ski operators ensured that all those involved reached safety.

In the first incident, which occurred on Tuesday afternoon, a fishing canoe carrying 15 fishermen overturned at sea off Colva, Drishti Marine immediately deployed jet skis and lifesavers, who used rescue equipment to reach those in distress.

Lifesavers Paresh Gaude, Sachin Sukate, Deepak Trikiy, Vasudev Gaonkar and Shubham Keluskar, supported by jet ski operators Megharaj Juvatkar and Roshan Patil, rescued all 15 fishermen safely. Around the same time off Benaulim beach, in another incident, a fishing canoe carrying 9 fishermen also capsized. Lifesavers Sudarshan, Rajendra Naik and Ankur Velip, along with jet ski operators Siddhesh Gaonkar and Pankaj, rescued nine fishermen, while the remaining four were able to reach safety on their own. No injuries were reported. 

Sea conditions along Goa’s coastline remain unsafe during the monsoon season, with rough waters and strong winds making swimming hazardous. Swimming is prohibited at the state’s beaches during this period. Drishti Marine has positioned more than 480 trained lifesavers and beach marshals across Goa’s major beaches, waterfalls and four inland water bodies to respond to emergencies and assist visitors.
