AAP leaders join those on one-day hunger strike at Azad Maidan in solidarity with Sonam Wangchuk; Extend support to revolutionary students’ movement at Jantar Mantar

Goa Khabar : AAP Goa State President Valmiki Naik, Velim MLA Eng Cruz Silva along with other party leaders, joined citizens participating in a one-day hunger strike at Azad Maidan in solidarity with Sonam Wangchuk and the students’ movement at Jantar Mantar.

AAP expressed its full support for the nationwide non-violent agitation demanding accountability over repeated paper leaks and seeking the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

AAP Goa President Valmiki Naik stated that despite attempts to suppress the movement, students and youth across the country have reignited the democratic spirit of India through peaceful protest. AAP said the government’s attempt to crush dissent and discourage young people from raising their voices has failed.

He said that that a new wave of democratic awakening is sweeping across the country as lakhs of students and young people have gathered in the national capital to demand accountability for repeated examination paper leaks and to seek the resignation of the Union Education Minister.

Valmiki Naik said it was deeply shameful that instead of responding to the legitimate concerns of students, the government forcibly removed Wangchuk from Jantar Mantar after he remained steadfast in his hunger strike for 22 days.

Eng Cruz Silva stated that it was shameful that paper leaks are destroying the future of students who spend years preparing for exams, such incidents have also led to student suicides.

Silva expressed shock that no one from the Govt came to speak to Sonam Wangchuk or protesters and instead the BJP was busy protecting Dharmendra Pradhan at the cost of students’ futures.

AAP leaders stated that the government made every attempt to suppress the movement, to discourage democratic protest and crush the morale of the country’s youth. However, he said the determination of Sonam Wangchuk and thousands of students ensured that the movement only grew stronger.

Naik pointed out that despite being dragged out of the protest it was praiseworthy that Sonam Wangchuk refused ntravenous or oral nutrition during his fast and said his resilience has inspired millions of Indians to stand firmly against injustice through peaceful means.

AAP reiterated that it stands firmly with every student and young person fighting peacefully for justice, transparency and accountability and that Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan now must resign.
