Goa Khabar : Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane has welcomed the Central Government’s approval of financial assistance of up to ₹6 crore per project under the NAMO Van Yojana, describing it as a significant step towards transforming urban areas into sustainable and vibrant green ecosystems.

Rane said the initiative would build upon the successful transformation of the legacy dump at Sonsodo into a thriving green space. He added that several more sites have already been identified across Goa’s municipalities for similar redevelopment under the scheme.

According to the Minister, the proposed ‘Green Lungs’ will help improve air quality, reduce the urban heat effect, enhance biodiversity, and create healthier public spaces for citizens.

He further stated that the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to sustainable urban development by converting underutilised and degraded areas into environmentally beneficial green zones.
