Goa Khabar: The Goa BJP has questioned the claims surrounding an award received by Goa Forward Party President and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai at an event held in the House of Commons in London, alleging that the publicity surrounding the award creates a misleading impression of official recognition by the UK Parliament.

In a statement, BJP State Media Convener and Spokesperson Siddesh Shripad Naik said the award ceremony was organised by Luminary Networks Limited, a private event management company, and not by the UK Parliament. He asserted that while the event was held within the House of Commons complex, it took place in a hall that is available for hire for private conferences, meetings and award functions.

Naik stated that publicly available parliamentary guidelines make it clear that privately organised events held on the Parliamentary Estate should not be projected as official parliamentary functions. He further claimed that the organisers themselves have clarified that their events are private, independent and neither affiliated with nor endorsed by the UK Parliament.

According to the BJP leader, there is nothing objectionable about accepting a private award, but there is a clear distinction between recognition by a private organisation and an official honour conferred by a parliamentary institution. He said this distinction should be communicated honestly to the people of Goa.

Naik also alleged that the manner in which the award has been publicised creates a false impression that Sardesai was officially recognised by the House of Commons for his legislative work. He maintained that Goans deserve complete transparency and factual information rather than what he described as carefully manufactured perceptions.

“The issue is not the award itself, but the impression being created around it. Public life demands transparency, not theatrics,” Naik said while urging that the facts surrounding the event be presented clearly to the public.
