Goa Kahabar: Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said that ensuring safe and hygienic food for every Goan remains a top priority, as the Food Safety Department carried out a routine inspection drive across Nagoa and Verna IDC in Salcete.

A total of 12 restaurants, retailers and hawkers were inspected during the drive. Officials found two establishments operating without valid food licences, while eight units were directed to immediately rectify serious hygiene violations.

The inspection revealed multiple lapses, including improper food storage, pest infestation, unsafe food handling practices, use of synthetic food colours, and inadequate waste disposal systems.

Additionally, six establishments were penalised for violating the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA).

In a separate action based on a public complaint, officials inspected a pork processing unit in Fatorda, which was found to be operating without FSSAI registration. The unit was served with a notice for operating without the required licence.

Minister Vishwajit Rane stated that strict monitoring and regular inspections will continue to ensure compliance with food safety standards and protect public health across Goa.
