Goa Khabar : The Town Square Project in Porvorim is expected to be completed and opened to the public by August,” said Hon’ble Minister for Tourism, Information Technology, Electronics & Communications, Printing & Stationery, Rohan Khaunte, while speaking to the media after a review meeting.
Khaunte stated that the centrally funded Town Square Project remains a priority initiative and is being executed with a target of completion by 15th August. A review meeting was held to assess the various aspects related to the completion of the project, including road redevelopment, traffic management, and inter-departmental coordination. As part of the Town Square development, the adjoining service road and parallel stretches will also be redeveloped and beautified to complement the overall project.
The ongoing National Highway project and related traffic movement were also reviewed. Officials discussed the progress of road works, drainage systems, culverts, and cross-drains. Most of the critical works have been completed, while remaining works are being expedited by the concerned contractors.
Shri Khaunte further stated that the meeting focused on improving traffic flow and opening alternate routes, including the road towards Mapusa, to ease congestion and facilitate smoother vehicular movement. Concerns regarding service roads, elevated pathways, traffic congestion and pending hot-mix works were also discussed, with concerned departments being directed to coordinate and implement suitable solutions.
To ensure smooth execution of the Town Square Project, officials from Tourism, PWD, National Highways, Sewerage, Electricity, and Water Supply Departments are working together to resolve coordination-related matters.
The Minister emphasised the importance of timely planning and execution, particularly during the monsoon season. He noted that while weather-related challenges may impact progress, all departments have been directed to adopt a coordinated approach and work towards completion of the project within the targeted timeframe.
