Goa Khabar : Wilbert Egipsy (45), Calangute based tourism professional has emerged as the first Goa based triathlete to successfully complete a second, full Ironman race.
Wilbert completed the arduous race which comprises 3.8kms of open water swimming followed by 180 kms of cycling and a 42 km full marathon to be completed in 17 hours. The full Ironman ( total 226 kms) is considered to be the toughest one-day, endurance sport in the world.
Egipsy successfully completed his second, Ironman triathlon race in Da nang, Vietnam on May 10 last month in a time of 15:36 hrs.
According to him the sea in Vietnam was clean and clear and he could keep away from the jelly fish. The cycling and running routes were flat, but the heat was intense. He said, his regular training routines in Goa helped him immensely.
Egipsy had completed his first Ironman race in Subic Bay,Phillipines in June 2023. Besides the two, full Ironman races, Egipsy, has got three successful Ironman 70.3 races ( 113 kms) under his belt.
According to Egipsy, he is addicted to the daily training drills more than the event itself. “I am a bachelor and have a lot of time in hand every day. I therefore, appreciate the daily exercise routine the most. It keeps me mentally and physically agile and fit. This regular swim-cycle-run routine results in a structured way of life, where work, diet and rest all fits into place,” Egipsy said.
Egipsy plans to take part in the Goa Ultra marathon race on August 9 in Canacona and in the Ironman Goa 70.3 race on November 1 next.
