Goa Khabar: Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao has petitioned to the Governor to recall the cancelled Goa Assembly and further requested the Speaker to facilitate the process and the CM to pave the way.
LoP has demanded discussion on the Bills and the unfinished business of the House due to abrupt cancellation for no valid reason.
“I write to you with deep concern regarding the abrupt curtailment of the recent Goa Legislative Assembly session, which was justified on the grounds of the Ponda by- polls and the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct. This justification was hollow and did not stand the test as the state assemblies of other similar regions were in session. The real reason for the sudden and abrupt closure of the apex democratic institution remains a mystery.,”he said.
“Now, the by-elections to the Ponda constituency stand cancelled consequent on the judgement of the High Court. As a result, there should be no hindrance as projected earlier for the state assembly to function and transact the unfinished business before the House.”he further stated.
He said that the people of Goa expect their elected representatives to deliberate and decide on crucial Bills that safeguard our land resources, environment, demography and identity. The suspension of legislative business has left these vital matters unattended.
Alemao said that the House must resume its work without delay, and the pending Bills must be taken up for discussion and passage. Goa cannot afford legislative paralysis at a time when its land and future are at stake.
