Unique wheelchair open category highlights day of competitive action at Bandodkar Panjim Gymkhana Tennis Open 2026

Goa Khabar : Tennis players with disabilities tested their sports skills at the ongoing Bandodkar Panjim Gymkhana Tennis Open 2026 in the special wheelchair open category of the tournament on Saturday. 

In the wheelchair open category, Mahesh and Moises registered a 4-0 win over Stanley and Gauresh, while Melvin and Nikilesh defeated the same pair 4-1. Melvin and Nikilesh also overcame Vinod and Gauresh 4-2, while Vinod and Gauresh returned with a 4-2 win over Mahesh and Moises in another match.

Seven tennis players with disabilities have registered to play in the wheelchair open category of the state-ranking tournament. 

In the other categories of the tournament, mixed open doubles category, two pairs moved into the finals with convincing performances. Siddharth Nunes and Aishwarya Nunes defeated Prithvi Naik and Atika Gaur 6-2, 6-0, while Sreenath and Tanya got the better of Prince and Urvi 6-2, 6-2 in their respective semi-final encounters.

The men’s open doubles category witnessed a series of quarter-final matches, with Prince and Nishad defeating Rajaram and Kyan 6-1. Anurag Agrawal and Santosh edged past Siddharth Nunes and Arup Angle 7-6, while Mano Chhabra and Neale Fernandes secured a 6-4 win over Noel Noronha and Raju Kundaikar. In the semi-final of the same category, Shaurya Awasthi and Rushil Anikar defeated Anurag Agrawal and Santosh 6-1, 2-6, 10-0 to move into the final stage.

In the ladies open doubles category, Poojal Somu Naik and Raisa Menezes recorded a dominant 6-0 win over Vladyslava and Nataliia Lazurenko in the quarter-finals. Avni Lotlikar and Saanj Kunde defeated Tatiana Malkarnekar and Kanika Singh 6-2, while Bhaavya Bhoomkar and Tithee Bhoomkar secured a 6-1 win over Janavi Sawadia and Ruhika Panda. 

In the semi-final, Poojal Somu Naik and Raisa Menezes continued their strong run, defeating Devyani Desai and Archana Desai 6-0, 6-1.

In the ladies open singles category, Tithee Bhoomkar and Tvisha Sardesai recorded identical 6-0 wins over Archana Desai and Ishani Tagare, respectively, in their matches.

The Bandodkar Panjim Gymkhana Tennis Open, which honours the legacy of Goa’s first Chief Minister Dayanand Bandodkar, continues over the coming days, with 247 players scheduled to compete across multiple categories.
