Goa Khabar : Former Congress leader Mamata Maben joined the Aam Aadmi Party in the presence of party President Valmiki Naik and Senior Vice President Sandesh Teleikar Dessai, expressing her commitment to work for people-centric governance and development in the state.
Speaking on joining the party, Mamata Maben said that although she had been associated with the Congress for 17 years and had risen through grassroots participation, she was never involved in important decision-making processes within the party. She resigned from the Congress and chose to join AAP because she was inspired by the leadership within the party like Former Delhi CM Atishi, who rose to an important leadership position in AAP despite not coming from a traditional political background. “Seeing women leaders like Atishi rise through dedication and work gives confidence to many women like me to participate actively in politics and contribute meaningfully,” she said.
She also expressed admiration for the governance initiatives implemented by Arvind Kejriwal, particularly in the areas of healthcare, education and welfare measures such as affordable electricity. She said that such policies should also be implemented in Goa by electing an AAP government committed to people’s welfare.

Welcoming her into the party, AAP Goa President Valmiki Naik said that AAP continues to expand in Goa as more leaders and citizens recognise the party’s commitment to honest politics and welfare-oriented governance. Naik Stated that Mamata Maben has been actively involved in grassroots work in Goa, particularly in Ponda, and her experience in engaging with people at the local level will strengthen the party’s efforts in the region. He said she chose to join AAP after witnessing the work done by the party in the fields of education, healthcare and public welfare, while other parties have largely neglected these crucial sectors.
He added that the recent developments surrounding Arvind Kejriwal have exposed how political forces attempted to target a leader known for his honest and democratic governance model. “People of Goa can clearly see that Congress leaders joining AAP shows that AAP is the only party working consistently on the ground and providing a strong and constructive opposition to the BJP. It is also the most credible alternative to defeat the BJP and bring a people-centric government in Goa,” Naik said.
He pointed to initiatives such as Mohalla Clinics and improvements in Delhi’s government schools, which have gained international recognition and appreciation. “The people of Goa deserve a government that prioritises education, healthcare and welfare. After years of ineffective governance, it is time to bring a government that truly works for the people,” Naik said.
AAP Senior Vice President Sandesh Teleikar-Dessai iterated that the party remains focused on addressing long-standing issues faced by the people of Goa while strengthening its grassroots presence. He said AAP leaders and volunteers will be committed to helping people of Ponda and entire Goa resolve everyday concerns, including healthcare access, infrastructure challenges, drainage issues and administrative difficulties.
“Serving the people of Goa and addressing their daily problems is at the core of AAP’s politics. With leaders like Mamata Maben joining us, the party will continue to grow stronger while working closely with citizens to resolve their problems,” Teleikar-Dessai said.
The party leaders welcomed Mamata Maben into AAP and expressed confidence that her grassroots experience and commitment to public service will further strengthen the party’s efforts to build a transparent, accountable and welfare-oriented political alternative in Goa.
