Goa Khabar: Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao voiced concern over the hurried implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP), noting that inspections have already declared some schools unsafe.
During the question hour, Alemao said that  the structural audits have not been conducted in several talukas, and at the same time some schools have been declared unsafe only after inspection, it raises a serious question.
He said that in talukas like, Pernem, Parts of Bardez, Tiswadi, Ponda, Dharbandora, Quepem, Canacona, Mormugao etc, audits have  not be done.
“This is a state wide safety gap. GPS Bairo, St Cruz  , Govt High School Ganvchem Bhat, Merces  and GPS Punarvasan Sal  are declare as Unsafe.  Children were studying in unsafe buildings until audit exposed them,” he pointed out.
“We have already seen roof and ceiling collapses in recent years.  If audits were not conducted earlier, children may have been studying in unsafe buildings without anyone knowing,” he said.
He has questioned government about how many schools in the State are still pending structural audit and demanded the urgent action in the matter.
“The Government is rushing NEP implementation
without ensuring clarity in academic structure and learning hours,” he said.
[06/03, 7:29 pm] Yuri Alemao: *This is not a “Ghatmut”, but a “Jhutmut” Budget: LoP Yuri Alemao*
Panaji: Reacting to the State Budget, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao dismissed it as hollow and misleading. “This is not a ‘Ghatmut’ (strong) budget, but a ‘Jhutmut’ (false) budget filled with empty promises,” he said.
Alemao pointed out that the government is burdened with massive debt and has failed to clarify sources of funds or revenue. “What is provided is peanuts and chicken-feed. Seventy percent of revenue is already locked into salaries, pensions, social welfare commitments, and interest payments,” he noted.
He criticized the absence of a clear employment strategy. “The Chief Minister is silent on job creation targets. Our youth are desperately searching for employment, while this government is busy searching for ways to loot,” Alemao charged.
Calling the budget an election-year gimmick, he said, “The Chief Minister has tried to lure the public with fake promises. He repeated the word ‘Ghatmut’ hundreds of times, but this budget is nothing more than ‘Jhutmut.’ These false promises will be exposed.”
He also raised concerns about redevelopment plans for old government buildings. “I hope this is not a backdoor route to transfer public property into private hands under the guise of PPP,” he cautioned.
