Goa Khabar : The Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) and the Department of Tourism hosted a special familiarisation visit to the historic Aguad Port and Jail Complex on Saturday, bringing travel agents from across India to experience one of Goa’s most iconic heritage landmarks.
GTDC General Manager Gavin Dias highlighted the importance of showcasing Goa’s heritage offerings to the travel trade. “Heritage sites like Aguad Port and the Jail Complex represent a deeper narrative of Goa beyond beaches. By allowing travel partners to experience these spaces firsthand, we aim to encourage curated itineraries that highlight culture, history and meaningful travel experiences,” he said.
The delegates toured the renovated jail complex, learning about Goa’s Portuguese-era history, architecture and evolving tourism infrastructure. GTDC Deputy General Manager, Deepak Narvekar noted that experiential visits help agents better position heritage attractions in their travel packages. “The response has been extremely positive. Travel agents believe that the Aguad complex will appeal to a wide range of travellers and will help extend visitor engagement with Goa’s heritage circuit,” he said.
“Strong partnerships with travel agents play a vital role in promoting Goa more effectively across the country, and we look forward to building on the meaningful interactions and collaborations that began at the heritage complex,” said Savio Mathias, VP, Operations and Business Development, Aguad Port & Jail Complex.
Travel agents shared enthusiastic feedback about the visit. Deepa from Detours, Bengaluru, said, “The Aguad museum and jail complex are beautifully curated, and the facilities here will definitely add value to our guests’ experience. It’s a refreshing addition beyond the usual Goa itinerary.”
Raghu Raman from Make My Trip India, Bengaluru, described the museum tour as “informative and engaging, offering insights into Goa’s history that many travellers are unaware of.”
Shyam Yenani from CK Travels added, “The heritage storytelling, scenic views and peaceful atmosphere make Aguad a must-visit destination for both young travellers and families.”
GTDC officials expressed confidence that such immersive visits will increase awareness about Goa’s heritage tourism offerings and drive greater footfall to the Aguad Port and Jail Complex in the coming months.
