Goa Khabar: Day two of the Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias Table Tennis Championship2019 saw the Sub Junior Boys battle it out on the courts at the sports arena at Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias in Miramar.
The Sub Junior Boys category saw some of the most exciting matches being played out with Shantesh Mapsekar and Aarav Aiyar going the distance in the initial matches. Shantesh Mapsekar was on top of his game right from the start and eventually closed out the game 3-0 (11-5, 11-7, 11-5) defeating Vivek Carvalho. In the other game played out simultaneously Aarav Aiyar won the game scoring 3-0 (11-4, 11-6, 11-3) against Akshan Lawande.
In the semi finals Shantosh Mapsekar defeated Advait Mudras in straight sets scoring 3-0(11-5, 11-4, 11-8) while Aarav Aiyar defeated Aaron Colaclo 3-1(12-10, 7-11, 11-9, 12-10) to set up the finals against Shantesh Mapsekar.
The table tennis championship is an annual fixture on the state’s sports calendar slated to be held in each year. Day three of the championship will see games being played in the Men’s Category.
The tournament includes eleven categories – Under 12(Cadet Girls and Boys), Under 15 (Sub Junior Girls and Boys), Under 18 (Junior Girls and Boys) Men’s Singles, Ladies Singles, Veteran Singles (Above 40), Veteran Singles (Above 50) and Veteran Singles (Above 60). Prizes collectively amounting to INR 43,000 will be awarded to winners in the various categories.
Over the past 80 years under the leadership of various individuals, the club has innovated and improved keeping in the mind the requirement of its members. The club offers facilities for playing badminton, squash, table tennis, billiards and tennis within its premises.
