Goa Khabar : \u201cFootball has put Goa on the international map and continues to inspire the younger generation to strive for excellence,\u201d said Honourable Aldona MLA Adv. Carlos Alvares Ferreira at the football kit distribution programme held at GFDC\u2019s Aldona centre on Monday. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Ferreira emphasized that sports not only develop physical and mental strength but also foster discipline, teamwork, and determination in children, which are essential for their all-round development.<\/p>\n

The event was organized by the Goa Football Development Council (GFDC) and saw the distribution of football kits to budding footballers from the Aldona centre. Speaking at the occasion, Ferreira shared memories of playing football on paddy fields and rough grounds during his youth. \u201cWe often played barefoot, and it was a challenge for many to adjust to wearing shoes when they reached championships. Today, with initiatives like these, our children are better equipped to pursue their passion and bring glory to the state,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Also present were Dr. Geeta Nagvenkar, Member Secretary of GFDC and Executive Director of the Sports Authority of Goa (SAG), Sr. Rosarina Crasto, Headmistress of St. Thomas Girls High School, Aldona, and other dignitaries including Subhash Raut and Nataline Colaco.<\/p>\n

Dr. Nagvenkar highlighted the significance of integrating sports into academics. \u201cFootball teaches discipline, time management, and goal-setting, shaping children to be fearless and character-driven individuals. The kit distribution is a small yet impactful step towards nurturing champions and preparing them to become stalwarts in Goan football,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She also commended the government\u2019s unwavering support in promoting football. \u201cWith the dedicated efforts of our Chief Minister and Sports Minister, and the tireless work of GFDC\u2019s staff across 35 centres in Goa, we are building a solid foundation for both boys and girls to excel in the sport,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Currently, the Aldona centre trains 45 boys and 35 girls, with guidance from coaches Sundar Raut and Worrel D\u2019Souza under the leadership of Centre Head Blaise D\u2019Cruz.<\/p>\n

In her address, Sr. Crasto called football more than just a game. \u201cIt unites the nation and fuels the passion to achieve life\u2019s goals,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Dr. Nagvenkar concluded by emphasizing the broader benefits of sports: \u201cBesides enhancing physical fitness, sports build character, self-confidence, and community spirit. Teamwork and motivation are keys to success, and with collective efforts, we can take Goan football to greater heights.\u201d<\/p>\n
