{"id":89299,"date":"2023-02-23T20:46:47","date_gmt":"2023-02-23T15:16:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.goakhabar.com\/?p=89299"},"modified":"2023-02-23T20:46:47","modified_gmt":"2023-02-23T15:16:47","slug":"palolem-beach-tops-in-water-sports-related-accidents-in-goa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.goakhabar.com\/?p=89299","title":{"rendered":"Palolem\u00a0beach tops in water-sports related accidents in Goa\u00a0\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p lang=\"EN-US\">\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p lang=\"EN-US\"><strong><span lang=\"EN-IN\">~ 16 accidents linked to\u00a0water-sports\u00a0reported over 14 months\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p lang=\"EN-US\">\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p lang=\"EN-US\"><strong><span lang=\"EN-IN\">Goa Khabar:<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"EN-IN\">\u00a0Sixteen water-sports related accidents were reported over the last 14 months on Goa&#8217;s beaches, causing a slew of injuries to participants as well as to bystanders, according to data\u00a0maintained\u00a0by Drishti Marine, a state government-appointed agency deployed to prevent mishaps and drownings along the coastline.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p lang=\"EN-US\"><span lang=\"EN-IN\">With seven incidents,\u00a0Palolem\u00a0topped the list of beaches with\u00a0the most\u00a0number of water-sports accidents, while most persons injured in the accidents were from the age group of between 26-35 years, according to statistics. The accidents were linked to water-sports activities which included boat rides, banana boat rides,\u00a0paragliding\u00a0and kayaking.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p lang=\"EN-US\"><span lang=\"EN-IN\">One death was also reported at Baina beach on\u00a0New Year&#8217;s eve, after a 72-year-old Mumbai resident died soon after he suffered a mild cardiac arrest while\u00a0participating\u00a0in a water-sports activity at Baina beach, according to media reports. Three other water-sports related accidents were also reported at Baina beach. One of the incidents involved a banana boat, which capsized in the sea during a joyride throwing a passenger off it. The offloaded passenger was hit by another boat which was passing by, causing injury.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p lang=\"EN-US\"><span lang=\"EN-IN\">Two accidents were reported at\u00a0Betalbatim\u00a0beach, while one accident each occurred on Candolim,\u00a0Agonda,\u00a0Arambol\u00a0and Baga beaches. 17 out of the total 20 people involved in accidents were tourists, while three locals were also injured.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p lang=\"EN-US\"><span lang=\"EN-IN\">At\u00a0Betalbatim\u00a0beach, an 84-year-old German was walking on the beach when a paragliding operator, while\u00a0attempting\u00a0to land the\u00a0aircraft, collided with him. The German&#8217;s hand was caught in the revolving blades of the craft, causing major gashes to his elbow and the loss of three fingers. Alert Drishti Marine lifesavers managed to retrieve one dismembered finger, which was deposited in an ice packet, before the injured man was transported to a nearby hospital, after suffering major blood loss.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p lang=\"EN-US\"><span lang=\"EN-IN\">In another instance at\u00a0Betalbatim\u00a0beach, a 27-year-old woman was preparing to take off with her parasail when a sudden malfunction caused her to plummet to the ground, injuring her. The accident led to the woman receiving a cut to her leg and acute spinal pain. The woman was given first aid and then transported to a hospital in a designated Drishti Marine jeep stationed on the beach.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p lang=\"EN-US\"><span lang=\"EN-IN\">According to the water-sports accident statistics sourced from the period January 2022 to February 2023, seven accidents involved persons in the age group of 26-35 years, while five accidents involved those in the age bracket of 36-45 years.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p lang=\"EN-US\"><span lang=\"EN-IN\">&#8220;Drishti Marine&#8217;s lifesavers have ensured that those injured and in distress due to water-sports accidents receive timely assistance in all situations.
