A sudden and massive flood swept through areas of central Nepal early Wednesday, killing four people<\/strong> and causing extensive damage to settlements along the river. At least a dozen hydropower projects<\/strong> were also reportedly damaged in the disaster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Officials said the flood surged through the Bhote Koshi River at around 9 am local time<\/strong>, with the floodwaters coming from the Tibet side. The disaster affected Rasuwa and Dhading districts<\/strong>, which border Tibet, as well as Nuwakot district<\/strong>, southwest of Kathmandu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n According to a statement issued by the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB)<\/strong>, a total of 384 travellers \u2014 291 foreigners and 93 Nepalese nationals \u2014 have gone missing<\/strong> following the floods in Rasuwa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Among the missing foreign travellers are 105 Indian tourists and 37 NRIs<\/strong>. The remaining missing tourists are reportedly from countries including the United States, Malaysia, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Australia and the Netherlands<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Rescue and search operations are underway in the flood-affected areas as authorities attempt to trace those reported missing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Nepal Tourism Board has also issued emergency contact numbers for assistance.
