Goa Khabar : Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Girish Chodankar has issued a detailed reply to the communication received from HOABL Impactum Lands Private Limited, firmly rejecting the allegations made against him and reiterating that his public statements have always been guided by constitutional values, public interest, and the duty to safeguard Goa\u2019s land, environment, and the rights of its people.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his response, Chodankar categorically denied ever linking any individual or the company with its Karapur project. He clarified that his statements merely raised legitimate public questions regarding land dealings and governance, which every responsible public representative is duty-bound to do. He stated that the company had misconstrued his remarks to create a narrative that was never intended or expressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chodankar observed that the contents of the company\u2019s letter itself raise important questions. He noted that the elaborate explanations offered by the company on matters which were never directly alleged create a reasonable apprehension that there may be issues warranting greater public scrutiny.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Referring to his public comments regarding international real estate associations and references made in public discourse, Chodankar clarified that these were based entirely on information already available in the public domain and were raised in the context of legitimate political debate concerning the extraordinary support being extended to mega projects in Goa despite widespread public opposition. Such observations, he said, fall squarely within the ambit of fair political comment and democratic accountability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The GPCC President also made it clear that there is no legal or constitutional obligation on his part to issue any clarification or retraction, as demanded by the company, since his statements were made in good faith, based on matters of public concern, and are fully protected under the right to freedom of speech guaranteed by Article 19(1)(a) of the Constitution of India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chodankar reaffirmed that raising questions about land transactions, environmental impact, governance, statutory permissions, and large-scale development projects is an integral part of democratic oversight and essential for protecting Goa\u2019s identity and the interests of its people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He further stated that nothing contained in the company\u2019s communication should be construed as an admission of any liability or wrongdoing on his part. He has reserved all legal rights, remedies, and defences available under law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
