{"id":114264,"date":"2026-07-27T16:58:17","date_gmt":"2026-07-27T11:28:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.goakhabar.com\/?p=114264"},"modified":"2026-07-27T16:58:22","modified_gmt":"2026-07-27T11:28:22","slug":"lok-sabha-introduces-bill-to-strengthen-anti-paper-leak-law-jail-term-up-to-10-years-%e2%82%b950-lakh-fine-proposed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.goakhabar.com\/?p=114264","title":{"rendered":"Lok Sabha introduces bill to strengthen Anti-Paper Leak Law; Jail term up to 10 years, \u20b950 Lakh fine proposed"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Goa Khabar :\u00a0The Central Government on Monday introduced the\u00a0Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026\u00a0in the Lok Sabha, proposing significantly stricter penalties to curb examination paper leaks and organised examination fraud.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Bill was introduced by\u00a0Minister of State in the Prime Minister&#8217;s Office, Dr. Jitendra Singh, amid Opposition protests over the recent police crackdown on students during demonstrations demanding accountability for the NEET examination controversy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"340\" src=\"https:\/\/www.goakhabar.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/26.07.26-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-114265\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.goakhabar.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/26.07.26-1.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.goakhabar.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/26.07.26-1-265x300.jpg 265w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under the proposed legislation, individuals found guilty of\u00a0paper leaks or using unfair means in public examinations\u00a0could face a\u00a0minimum imprisonment of five years, extendable up to\u00a010 years, along with a\u00a0fine of up to \u20b950 lakh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For\u00a0organised examination fraud, the Bill proposes even stricter punishment, including a\u00a0minimum seven-year jail term\u00a0and a\u00a0fine of up to \u20b910 crore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The proposed amendments also seek to ensure\u00a0time-bound investigations and trials. Investigation into paper leak cases must be completed within\u00a0two months, while\u00a0Fast-Track Courts\u00a0established by States and Union Territories will be required to conclude trials\u00a0within three months of the filing of the chargesheet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally, the Bill empowers the\u00a0Central Government to constitute a Special Task Force (STF)\u00a0to investigate paper leak cases under specific circumstances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following the introduction of the Bill,\u00a0Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla\u00a0invited Opposition members who had submitted notices to oppose its introduction. However, no member spoke against it, after which the Bill was formally introduced.
