Borkar demanded an immediate inquiry into the abnormal billing, verification of meter readings, correction of erroneous bills, and a transparent and time-bound grievance redressal mechanism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The MLA also called for a reduction in the per-unit electricity tariff, stating that the increasing cost of electricity has become unaffordable for many families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"340\" src=\"https:\/\/www.goakhabar.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Z-cinema.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-114157\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.goakhabar.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Z-cinema.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.goakhabar.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Z-cinema-265x300.jpg 265w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Further, Borkar demanded that the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) convene a public hearing on the recent electricity tariff hike, allowing consumers, elected representatives, civil society organisations, and stakeholders to voice their concerns. He stressed that any revision in electricity tariffs must be transparent, consultative, and in the larger public interest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking after the meeting, Borkar said: \u201cElectricity is an essential service, not a luxury. The people of Goa deserve fair tariffs, transparent billing, and an opportunity to be heard before any burden is imposed on them.
