Goa Khabar : Congress leader Siddaramaiah announced his resignation from the position of Karnataka Chief Minister on Thursday, fulfilling a directive issued by the party high command two days prior. Shortly after submitting his resignation letter to the Governor’s Special Secretary, Prabhu Shankar, at Lok Bhavan, Siddaramaiah addressed a packed press conference alongside his deputy and successor, D K Shivakumar. The Special Secretary received the official document as Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot was out of the state at the time.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the press interaction, Siddaramaiah expressed absolute confidence that the Governor would accept his resignation in accordance with Constitutional provisions. He reiterated that he had always maintained he would step down whenever instructed by the party leadership. Reflecting on his tenure, he extended his gratitude to the Congress high command\u2014specifically Sonia Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Rahul Gandhi\u2014for granting him the opportunity to serve the people of Karnataka as Chief Minister twice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shivakumar and several cabinet colleagues accompanied Siddaramaiah to Lok Bhavan. This transition follows a period of intense competition between the two leaders for the top post after the Congress party’s victory in the May 2023 Assembly election. At that time, the party leadership successfully persuaded Shivakumar, who also serves as the state party president, to accept the role of Deputy Chief Minister. While reports circulated back then regarding a compromise based on a “rotational chief minister formula” that would see Shivakumar take over after two-and-a-half years, no official confirmation was ever provided by the party or the individuals involved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The formal internal announcement came earlier in the day during a breakfast hosted by Siddaramaiah at his official residence.
