Chief Minister emphasises heritage preservation and modern museum development in Goa<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Goa Khabar : The Goa Science Centre, in collaboration with the Directorate of Museums, organised the three-day \u2018My Own Collection\u2019 exhibition from 16th to 18th May 2026 at Goa Science Centre. As part of the International Museum Day 2026 celebrations, the theme \u201cMuseums Uniting a Divided World,\u201d promoted heritage preservation and cultural awareness.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition featured rare coins, stamps, shells, artefacts, antiques and heritage collectibles displayed by hobby collectors from across Goa, attracting students, families, and visitors. As part of the programme, attendees interacted with collectors and learned about the historical significance of various artefacts and collections, while a special lecture on the History and Heritage of Goa highlighted the importance of preserving traditional knowledge, culture and historical treasures for future generations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the programme, the Hon\u2019ble Chief Minister distributed sanction orders under the Scheme of Financial Assistance to Rusty Relic Museum, Colva and Aamchem Daaiz Trust Museum, Keri-Sattari. Mementos were also presented to hobby collectors in recognition of their contribution towards preserving heritage and promoting awareness about museums and cultural conservation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant said, \u201cMuseums are the living memory of society. They preserve our history, traditions, culture, struggles and identity for future generations. Museums connect people through knowledge and heritage, and play an important role in nation building by inspiring unity, awareness and pride in our collective legacy.\u201d He emphasised that under the vision of Viksit Goa for Viksit Bharat, the Government remains committed to preserving Goa\u2019s cultural heritage while embracing modern development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chief Minister further stated that the Government of Goa is working towards establishing a full-fledged modern museum to showcase Goa\u2019s rich cultural and historical heritage. He noted that Goa\u2019s museum network currently preserves more than 10,000 valuable artefacts reflecting the State\u2019s journey from the Kadamba period to modern times and stressed that Goa\u2019s heritage extends far beyond colonial history, encompassing deep-rooted cultural and civilisational traditions and encouraged departments to identify museums across the State and include them in Goa\u2019s tourism network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The valedictory function held on 18th May was graced by Hon\u2019ble Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant as Chief Guest in the presence of Secretary of Museums Shri Michael D\u2019Souza, Director of Museums Dr. Vasu M.
