Centered around the theme \u201c<strong><em>Driving Goa\u2019s Green Hospitality &amp; Habitat &#8211; Enabling Sustainable Growth in Hotels, Resorts &amp; Residential Developments Across Goa<\/em><\/strong>\u201d. The event\u00a0witnessed senior government officials, urban planners, policymakers, and industry leaders deliberating on advancing sustainable infrastructure and accelerating the adoption of green building practices across the state. The engagement served as a strategic platform to align policy direction, share best practices, and explore collaborative pathways to integrate sustainability into Goa\u2019s rapidly evolving urban and tourism landscape. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Goa\u2019s commitment to a sustainable green environment is reflected in IGBC\u2019s pivotal contributions to the state, covering a total green building footprint of 9.96 million sq ft with 88 IGBC-registered projects and 27 IGBC-certified projects, which include commercial, residential, industrial &amp; logistics and net zero projects across the state. Some of the key projects are&nbsp;Club Mahindra &#8211; Emerald Palms, Goa, NIT Goa Campus &#8211; Phase 1, Goa, ALL INDIA INSTITUTE OF AYURVEDA, THDCL Agueda. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The inaugural session had the presence of&nbsp;<strong>Shri Digambar Kamat<\/strong>, Minister for PWD, Legal Metrology &amp; Captain of Ports, State of Goa;&nbsp;<strong>Mr Rajesh Sheth<\/strong>, President, CREDAI Goa;&nbsp;<strong>Mr Mahendra Wani<\/strong>, Chairman, CII Goa State Council;&nbsp;<strong>Smt Vandana Chavan<\/strong>, Ex Member of Parliament and Ex-Mayor of Pune City;&nbsp;<strong>Mr K. KulaSekhar<\/strong>, Chairman, IGBC Goa Chapter;&nbsp;<strong>Mr Prakash Jalan<\/strong>, Co-Chair, IGBC Goa Chapter; and key stakeholders from the construction, real estate, and infrastructure sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The discussion throughout the evening focused on embedding sustainability into Goa\u2019s development, encouraging the adoption of globally benchmarked green building rating systems, and promoting resource efficiency across energy, water, and materials. These deliberations also highlighted the importance of climate-responsive development, resilience planning, and the need to create enabling policy ecosystems that incentivize sustainable construction practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"322\" data-id=\"111684\" src=\"https:\/\/www.goakhabar.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/28.04.26.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-111684\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.goakhabar.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/28.04.26.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.goakhabar.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/28.04.26-280x300.jpg 280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Addressing the gathering,&nbsp;<strong>Shri&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>Digambar Kamat, Minister for PWD, Legal Metrology &amp; Captain of Ports, State of Goa<\/strong>, highlighted the critical importance of sustainable development in safeguarding Goa\u2019s unique ecological heritage. He stated,&nbsp;<em>\u201cGoa has the potential to be among the world\u2019s best habitats, but achieving this requires a careful balance between development and environmental preservation. Striking the right equilibrium between mining and ecology through strict regulations is essential. The State Government has significantly contributed to Goa\u2019s growth by adopting transparent processes and engaging some of the world\u2019s finest architects to create a unique development model. Going forward, green buildings, green industries, and green resorts must become central to our vision.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Inspired by Hon\u2019ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi\u2019s call for \u2018Swachh Bharat\u2019, we must collectively work towards a \u2018Swachh Goa, Green Goa\u2019. Under the leadership of Hon\u2019ble Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, we are committed to achieving a \u2018Viksit Goa by 2037\u2019 with the active support of society and all sectors. Platforms like IGBC\u2019s Green Goa conclave play a vital role in bringing stakeholders together, building confidence for investment, and driving sustainable solutions. We must preserve Goa\u2019s villages through corrective measures that retain our greenery and natural environment. This conclave is closely linked to Goa\u2019s development journey, and with government support, it will help deliberate and implement solutions that ensure sustainable and inclusive growth.\u201d<\/em><em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mr. K. Kula Sekhar, Chair of IGBC Goa Chapter,<\/strong>&nbsp;while addressing the conclave,&nbsp;reiterated the Council\u2019s commitment to partnering with state governments to mainstream green building practices. He remarked, \u201c<em>CII IGBC has consistently worked towards creating a robust ecosystem for sustainable construction in India. Our engagement with the Government of Goa marks an important step in strengthening institutional collaboration, enabling knowledge exchange, and supporting the adoption of green building standards that contribute to a low-carbon, resource-efficient, and future-ready built environment<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A key highlight of the engagement was the emphasis on the role of green buildings in enhancing environmental performance while delivering long-term economic and social benefits. The discussions further explored opportunities for integrating green building norms into state-level regulations, strengthening institutional capacity, and driving awareness among developers, architects, and local bodies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mr. Prakash Jalan, Co-Chair of&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>IGBC Goa Chapter<\/strong><strong>,&nbsp;<\/strong>emphasizedthe role of IGBC in driving sustainability in Goa. He said,&nbsp;<em>\u201cGoa stands at a pivotal moment where growth in hospitality and residential development must go hand-in-hand with environmental stewardship. At IGBC, we believe that integrating green building practices, resource efficiency, and climate-responsive design is a necessity. This is to safeguard Goa\u2019s unique ecology while sustaining its tourism-driven economy. The Green Goa Conclave 2026 bolsters this transformation, enabling developers, hoteliers, and policymakers to collaborate and create greener future-ready resilient habitats across the state.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the technical session, experts from&nbsp;Mahindra Resorts, Sustain and Save Pvt. Ltd, The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), ECOSTP, Saint-Gobain Glass India Pvt. Ltd., Neelkanth, and Pune Gas&nbsp;shared insights, case studies and the journey towards lower carbon emissions, optimized resource consumption, and improved occupant health across hotels, resorts and homes in India.The engagement concluded with Panel Discussion on Building a Greener Goa: Sustainable Solutions for Residential &amp; Hospitality Sectors. Setting a strong consensus on the need for continued collaboration between government and industry to accelerate the adoption of green and sustainable practices.
