Goa Khabar:<\/strong>Sporting Clube de Goa produced a fine display in the penultimate Goa Pro league clash recording a fluent 3-1 win over Calangute Asosciation to seal their third successive Goa Professional League title at Calangute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Doyal Alves netted a hattrick for Flaming Oranje while Nigel Silveira pulled one goal back for the losing side. Sporting Clube de Goa have claimed the GPL title with 47 points from 20 matches, mathematically untouchable with one game still to play. The trophy presentation and official crowning ceremony may yet be ahead, but make no mistake: this title belongs to Sporting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The opening minutes offered little in the way of clear-cut chances a compact, disciplined midfield battle between two sides that clearly respected each other’s defensive organisation. Chances were probed for rather than created and both backlines held firm with the kind of concentration that keeps scorelines blank deep into first halves. The tempo shifted in the final ten minutes before the break, Sporting beginning to find the gaps they had been patiently searching for. Antush Moniz drove a long-range effort that cannoned off the woodwork before Anil Zore received a cross from Doyal Alves and somehow contrived to direct his effort wide of an open net when a goal seemed certain. Sporting were not to be denied, however. From a corner situation, Ivon Costa’s movement created the space, and when the ball fell to Doyal Alves on the edge of the area he struck cleanly and precisely, 1-0 to Sporting as the half drew to a close, a lead built on growing dominance and a moment of individual quality that set the tone for everything that followed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The second half began in the manner Sporting had ended the first with purpose and with Doyal Alves at the centre of everything. Five minutes after the restart, Alves found himself one on one with Calangute keeper Wellyster Mendes and this time there was to be no reprieve. He dipped his body as he approached, wrong-footing Mendes completely and rolled the ball into the net with the composure of a forward who had been in this situation many times before. Two-nil. A third appeared to follow almost immediately, but the linesman’s flag cut the celebrations short. Alves was then denied his hat-trick by a sharp Mendes save on the hour and a cross from Moniz found him in a dangerous position only for the opportunity to be fumbled wide. A second effort was flagged offside moments later. The hat-trick was proving elusive but news filtering through from elsewhere had done the mathematics that mattered most: with 47 points and one game still to play, neither Clube de Salgaocar on 43 points their season complete nor Dempo SC on 41 with one match remaining could overhaul Sporting. The title had been claimed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Calangute refused to surrender and pressed for a route back into the contest. Shaviz Pathan found himself in a dangerous position his back-header drifting agonisingly off the post. Nigel Silveira introduced from the bench on the hour drew a sharp save from the Sporting keeper, before Arun Naik’s one-on-one in the 85th minute came to nothing as his strike sailed just over the bar. Then, with three minutes of normal time remaining, the match descended into chaos. Sheldon Pereira collected a second yellow card to leave Calangute with ten men and within seconds, Sporting’s Joyson Coutinho was shown a straight red card, reducing both sides to ten players in the most dramatic fashion. In the mayhem that followed, Sanson Pereira delivered a composed pass into the penalty area and Alves denied twice by the linesman and once by the keeper finally completed his hat-trick, driving home to make it 3\u20130.
