Goa Khabar : Drones are no longer experimental devices seen only at tech expos or in military operations. In Goa, they\u2019re steadily becoming essential operational tools across various sectors. From assessing crop damage to conducting aerial surveys for town planning and infrastructure projects, drones are being integrated into public systems in practical ways.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Back in 2022, recognising the potential of this fast-growing sector, the Government of Goa introduced the Drone Policy under the Department of Information Technology, Electronics & Communications (DITE&C). The objective has been to build a strong drone ecosystem in the state and position Goa as a hub for drone manufacturing, research and development. Beyond technology, the focus is also on generating employment and creating new opportunities for locals.<\/p>\n

The policy encourages the use of drones for citizen-centric services across agriculture, forestry, horticulture, healthcare, mining and tourism. It also seeks to streamline clearances, support enterprises under DSDM and DeTS, and strengthen academic and institutional capacity in drone technology. By promoting startups and skill development, the policy ensures local talent can benefit from this sector\u2019s growth.<\/p>\n

Since the policy was launched, the state has taken concrete steps to translate this vision into action. Zen Technologies Limited has been allotted a plot at the Electronic Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) in Tuem, marking a step towards strengthening localised manufacturing and defence technology capabilities in the state. The Government has also proposed a Drone Design and Aero Centre at Quitol, envisioned as a dedicated space where innovators can design, test and fly drones in a structured environment.<\/p>\n

There are also efforts to build a skilled workforce. The Goa Information Technology Development Corporation (GITDC) has initiated the empanelment of DGCA-approved agencies to offer certified drone pilot and technician training for women. In alignment with the Central Government\u2019s Drone Didi Scheme, the state also plans to train and equip women with advanced drones and technical skills, encouraging grassroot innovation especially in agriculture and allied sectors.<\/p>\n

The growing presence of drones in Goa is not limited to administration and industry, it\u2019s also visible in the public sphere. During the Shiv Jayanti celebration \u2018Shivshahichi Garjana\u2019, at Shree Bodgeshwar Ground in Mapusa, a drone light show lit up the sky, presenting the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in a modern, immersive format. The 300-drone spectacle reflected how emerging technology can blend seamlessly with culture and public celebrations.<\/p>\n

With policy direction, industry partnerships, training initiatives and visible real-world applications, Goa is establishing a strong drone ecosystem that supports governance, entrepreneurship and innovation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
