{"id":110410,"date":"2026-03-10T15:56:54","date_gmt":"2026-03-10T10:26:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.goakhabar.com\/?p=110410"},"modified":"2026-03-10T15:56:54","modified_gmt":"2026-03-10T10:26:54","slug":"goa-moving-towards-structured-ecotourism-development-with-new-policy-framework-khaunte","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.goakhabar.com\/?p=110410","title":{"rendered":"Goa moving towards structured ecotourism development with new policy framework : Khaunte"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Goa Khabar : Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte in today\u2019s Assembly sitting highlighted the Government of Goa\u2019s growing focus on\u00a0strengthening ecotourism and nature-based tourism initiatives across the state.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Minister noted that the Department of Tourism and the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) have been actively promoting ecotourism initiatives that encourage visitors to explore Goa beyond beaches, while ensuring responsible tourism practices and environmental conservation with a focus on local development and self-help groups.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As part of these initiatives, GTDC has developed eco-cottages in\u00a0Selaulim village\u00a0and introduced curated nature experiences such as jeep safaris, walking treks, and monsoon trekking trails to\u00a0Dudhsagar Waterfalls, enabling visitors to experience Goa\u2019s forests, wildlife and other elements of its biodiversity. These experiences are conducted in collaboration with the Goa Forest Department and aim to promote awareness about conservation while offering visitors a deeper understanding of Goa\u2019s natural ecosystems.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The state has also been promoting adventure-based ecotourism experiences such as\u00a0white-water rafting in the Mhadei River in Sattari taluka during the monsoon season, further expanding Goa\u2019s tourism offerings in its hinterland regions.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-110281\" src=\"https:\/\/goakhabar-com.preview.jikut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/06.03.2026.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"297\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.goakhabar.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/06.03.2026.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.goakhabar.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/06.03.2026-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.goakhabar.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/06.03.2026-80x80.jpg 80w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Highlighting future opportunities, the Minister stated that the government is identifying and developing several locations with strong potential for ecotourism. These include the development of a\u00a0wellness destination centre and eco-cottages at Anjunem in Keri, an\u00a0eco-forest retreat project at Chapoli Dam in Canacona, and a\u00a0women-centric village development initiative in Cotigao\u00a0that seeks to enhance facilities related to traditional jaggery production while creating livelihood opportunities for local communities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Minister further noted that the department is studying internationally recognised ecotourism models and global best practices to develop a structured framework for ecotourism development in Goa, ensuring that tourism growth remains sustainable while protecting the state\u2019s natural and cultural heritage.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Speaking on the importance of ecotourism in the state\u2019s tourism strategy,\u00a0Hon\u2019ble Tourism Minister\u00a0Shri\u00a0Rohan A. Khaunte\u00a0said,\u00a0\u201cGoa\u2019s tourism vision is focused on promoting sustainable and responsible tourism that allows visitors to experience the state\u2019s natural heritage while ensuring that local communities benefit from tourism-led economic opportunities. Ecotourism initiatives across Goa\u2019s forests, rivers and hinterland regions play a key role in this approach, and the government remains committed to developing these experiences in a structured and environmentally responsible manner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Additionally, the Government is also strengthening its focus on\u00a0wellness tourism\u00a0through the\u00a0Goa Ayurveda and Wellness Policy 2026, which seeks to position Goa as a destination for Ayurveda and holistic wellness. As part of this initiative, the Department of Tourism has signed MoUs with institutions such as the\u00a0National Institute of Ayurveda\u00a0and Panchakarma hospitals to promote Ayurveda-based tourism experiences in the state.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alongside infrastructure development, the Department of Tourism is also undertaking awareness initiatives to promote responsible tourism behaviour.
