Goa Khabar : Goa continues to reinforce its position as one of India\u2019s most preferred tourists destinations, having recorded an overall growth of 6.23% in tourist arrivals from January to September 2025 compared to the same period last year. Domestic arrivals grew by 5.36% (from 69,24,938 in 2024 to 72,96,068 in 2025), while international arrivals registered an impressive increase of 29.33% (from 2,59,820 to 3,36,031), reflecting the rising interest among travellers seeking Goa\u2019s diverse cultural, spiritual, and hinterland experiences.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

As visitor numbers continue to grow, the Tourism Department is closely monitoring reports of incidents affecting the safety and comfort of tourists.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In recent days, the Tourism Department has taken serious note of two separate incidents involving misconduct towards tourists, including one in which a group of visiting Indian tourists was allegedly seen harassing foreign women at Arambol beach. Such behaviour is unacceptable and does not reflect the values Goa stands for.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In another incident at Vagator, it was reported that bouncers of a local establishment allegedly intervened inappropriately, resulting in distress to visiting tourists, including a family from Varanasi. The Department firmly reiterates that bouncers are not authorised to handle tourist-related matters, and any form of assault, intimidation, or misconduct will invite strict action in coordination with law-enforcement authorities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Tourism Department reiterates that tourists are expected to behave responsibly during their stay and that all tourism stakeholders must uphold responsible conduct at their establishments. The State will not tolerate behaviour that compromises the well-being of residents or visitors.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Hon\u2019ble Minister for Tourism, Rohan Khaunte, stated, \u201cGoa welcomes everyone with warmth and respect. We are committed to ensuring that every visitor feels safe and comfortable here. The government will continue to work closely with the police and tourism stakeholders to promote responsible tourism and safeguard Goa\u2019s image as a safe and friendly destination.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In response, Director of Tourism, Kedar Naik, has held detailed discussions with the Tourist Police Unit. He stated, \u201cI have directed Tourist Police to intensify day- and night-patrolling, increase vigilance at key locations, and ensure swift response mechanisms to prevent recurrence of such incidents. These measures have been initiated to reinforce a safe and secure tourism environment in the State.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For any complaints or assistance, the Tourism Department urges visitors and residents to reach out to the 24\u00d77 Tourism Helpline, 1364, which is equipped to address concerns promptly.<\/span><\/p>\n
