Goa Khabar : The 44th Foundation Day of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD)\u00a0 was celebrated by Goa RO with great fervor and participation on 11th July at the Head Office\u00a0 of the Goa State Cooperative Bank (Goa StCB), Patto, Panaji. The event witnessed an august\u00a0 gathering of dignitaries, banking professionals, academicians, and cooperative sector stakeholders.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The event was presided over by Chief Guest Dr. Vasant Jugale, renowned agriculture economist,\u00a0 an avid Cooperative Sector Expert and retired Professor of Economics from Shivaji University,\u00a0 Kolhapur. Joining him on the dais were Prabhakar Jha, Regional Director, Reserve Bank\u00a0 of India (RBI), Panaji and Santosh Kenkre, Chairman, Committee of Administrators, Goa\u00a0 StCB. The event began with a warm welcome and opening address by Sandeep Dharkar,\u00a0 General Manager and Officer-in-Charge of NABARD Goa Regional Office, who highlighted\u00a0 NABARD\u2019s four-decade-long journey in spearheading agricultural and rural development in India,\u00a0 with a particular focus on Goa\u2019s rural and cooperative ecosystem.<\/p>\n

Dr. Jugale, in his keynote speech, offered deep insights into the philosophy and socio-economic\u00a0 impact of the cooperative movement in India. Drawing from historical and contemporary trends,\u00a0 he emphasized the cooperative sector as a \u201cthird way\u201d \u2014 balancing between private enterprise and\u00a0 state control \u2014 essential for inclusive and sustainable rural progress. He also introduced the\u00a0 concept of \u201cCoopreneurs\u201d <\/em>to the audience, budding entrepreneurs working in Cooperative\u00a0 Sector. He commended NABARD for its visionary leadership and catalytic role in revitalizing rural\u00a0 credit, supporting institutions like PACS, SHGs, and FPOs, and fostering rural livelihoods. He\u00a0 further underlined the need for strengthening cooperatives to ensure they remain relevant in an\u00a0 era of globalization and economic liberalization.<\/p>\n

Prabhakar Jha highlighted the strong symbiotic relationship between RBI and NABARD. He\u00a0 recalled that NABARD\u2019s origin can be traced back to the recommendations of the CRAFICARD\u00a0 committee constituted by RBI, and that NABARD remains a specialized extension of RBI\u2019s rural\u00a0 finance mandate. He appreciated NABARD\u2019s role in supervising State Cooperative Banks and\u00a0 Regional Rural Banks and elaborated on RBI\u2019s coordination with NABARD in areas like priority\u00a0 sector lending, financial inclusion, and institutional strengthening. He expressed satisfaction at the\u00a0 progress made by cooperative banks in Goa under NABARD\u2019s developmental guidance.<\/p>\n

Santosh Kenkre, in his address, lauded NABARD\u2019s multifaceted interventions in Goa\u2019s rural\u00a0 finance space and recognized its proactive role in supporting the Goa State Cooperative Bank. He\u00a0 noted how NABARD has seamlessly balanced its supervisory role with developmental support,\u00a0 particularly through initiatives under the Cooperative Development Fund (CDF) and Financial\u00a0 Inclusion Fund (FIF), which have enabled modernization, capacity-building, and digital adoption\u00a0 among cooperatives.<\/p>\n

A highlight of the event was the felicitation of three best-performing Multipurpose\u00a0 Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (mPACS) \u2013Sattari Taluka Farmers Service Coop. Soc.\u00a0 Ltd., Krishna Vividh Karyakari Sahakari Seva Soc. Ltd. and Mahalaxmi Vividh Karyakari\u00a0 Sahakari Seva Soc. Ltd. \u2013 for their excellence in governance, credit delivery, and member services.\u00a0 The Goa State Cooperative Bank was also felicitated by the Chief Guest for its significant\u00a0 turnaround in recent years, attributed to prudent financial management and support from\u00a0 NABARD.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
