Goa Khabar : The much-anticipated statewide Shigmotsav celebration commenced with grandeur and enthusiasm from Ponda on March 15. The spectacular Shigmotsav parade organised by the Ponda Taluka Antruz Shigmotsav Samiti in association with the Department of Tourism, Government of Goa, featured traditional Romtamel performances, folk dances, fancy dress and elaborate floats, set off from Tisk-Ponda, attracting large crowd eager to witness Goa\u2019s rich cultural heritage.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The event saw the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including Hon\u2019ble Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant; Hon\u2019ble Minister for Tourism, Rohan\u00a0 Khaunte; Hon\u2019ble Minister of Agriculture and MLA, Ponda Ravi Naik; Hon\u2019ble Member of Rajya Sabha Sadanand Shet Tanavade; President, BJP Goa Pradesh, Damu Naik; Director Tourism, Kedar Naik, and others graced the occasion and extended their best wishes to the participating artists and performers.<\/p>\n

While addressing the gathering Hon\u2019ble CM Dr. Pramod Sawant said, \u201cShigmo and Carnaval play a vital role in enhancing the state’s happiness index, celebrating Goa\u2019s rich traditions and cultural heritage. Shigmo, in particular, has provided a grand platform for local artists to showcase their talent and traditional art forms. With festivals like Shigmo offering a unique experience, more tourists are now visiting the state to be part of these vibrant celebrations.<\/p>\n

He further highlighted that Ponda, temple town of the state, is home to some of Goa\u2019s most revered temples. He called for collective efforts to enhance its beauty and preserve its cultural significance.<\/p>\n

Emphasizing the importance of sustainable tourism, he stated that it is a shared responsibility that promotes responsible travel, reduces environmental impact, and encourages active community participation. He also commended the Tourism Minister for his dedication to promoting Goa\u2019s cultural tourism on the global stage.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the event, Hon\u2019ble Minister for Tourism, Rohan Khaunte stated, \u201cShigmotsav is a celebration of the Goan spirit\u2014our traditions, our art, and the deep-rooted stories that have been passed down through generations. Through regenerative tourism, we are showcasing local traditions and village-level events to draw tourists to Goa\u2019s hinterlands. The tourism event calendar is regularly updated, with festivals like Shigmo receiving special focus.\u201d<\/p>\n

A massive crowd gathered in Ponda to witness and experience the extravaganza of the event, immersing themselves in the vibrant celebrations and cultural splendor.<\/p>\n

The Shigmotsav parades will continue across Goa in the coming days, bringing vibrant celebrations to different towns. After Ponda, the festivities will take over in Quepem on March 17, and Curchorem on March 18. On March 19, the celebrations will reach Shiroda, continuing to Calangute and Bicholim on March 20, Vasco on March 21, and Panaji on March 22. The streets of Mapusa and Sanguem will come alive on March 23, while Cuncolim will host a grand parade on March 24. The vibrant processions will then move to Pernem and Canacona on March 25, Dharbandora on March 26, Valpoi on March 27, and Sanquelim on March 28, before concluding in Mandrem on March 29.<\/p>\n
