~ First half blitz sees off Churchill ~
Goa Khabar: The FC Goa U-16 team were at their rampant best against Churchill Brothers in the Hero Junior League, scoring five goals without reply.
This was assumed to be a routine outing for the FC Goa U-16 side, and once the game started, it became clear that Churchill were in trouble.
The pace and power of the Gaur teens caught the home side by surprise, and they struggled to deal with the threat early.
A foul inside the box within the first ten minutes led to a penalty, and Wesley D’Sa made no mistake, slotting past the goalkeeper for 1-0.
There was little resurgence from Churchill after going behind, and they were pegged back once more as FC Goa attacked.
The second goal took a while longer, but eventually came courtesy of Pratik Kale, who converted from close range after a cross into the box.
2-0 soon became 3-0 after the Churchill keeper parried an intial effort into the path of Climax Fernandes, who had a tap in.
Churchill’s troubles continued, and the tormenter-in-chief from the U-16’s last game in the form of Rayan Menezes turned up to make it 4-0 after a lovely solo run.
Churchill were down to ten soon after, with two yellow cards shown to Sandeep Chaudhary, and FC Goa took advantage of their numerical superiority by making it 5-0 before the break.
The fifth goal was scored by Brendon Pereira, and capped off a perfect afternoon for the Gaurs before the second half even began.
Once the second half started, FC Goa controlled play, and despite having a few chanes, failed to find the back of the net.
Rayan and Bryson Pereira looked the most threatening, but Churchill survived the onslaught for the most part.
The FC Goa teenagers took the foot off the gas as the half wore on, and in the end, were happy to leave with five goals and all three points.
