Goakhabar: Governor Smt.Dr Mridula Sinha inaugurated “Vermi Composting” unit at Raj Bhavan, Dona Paula, today, set up by ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute – Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), North Goa, which converts organic wastes into manure.
Shri Shashi Vishwa Karma, Technical officer-Soil science, ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute – Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) North Goa showed the demonstration on the occasion about Vermicomposting.
Vermicomposting is an art and technology of rearing earthworms to convert wastes into useful manure. The earthworms insatiably feed on biodegradable waste material and convert it into black mass within a period of 45 days.
Another 10 composting units have also been set up by Gomantak Agro implementation service at Rajbhavan.
17 personnel from Raj Bhavan and other department such as Forest Dept and CCP have been trained to manage this composting unit on daytoday basis.
Also present on the occasion were Secretary Shri Rupesh Thakur IAS, Ms. Biju Naik, Jt. Secretary to Governor, Shri H.R.C Prabhu Programme coordinator, ICAR- KVK North Goa, Shri Ranjit Mapsekar, Assistant Horticulture Officer and other staff of Raj Bhavan.
