Goa State Boxing Championship to commence from 4th March 2020 at Mapusa


A total of 228 boxers have registered for the championship that comprises of 51 women and 177 men participating across 5 categories ~


Goa Khabar:The four day State Boxing Championship 2020 will commence from 4th March onwards at the Boxing Hall in Peddem, Mapusa. A start to the many events to be hosted by Goa Boxing Association and co-hosted by Prudent Media.

A total of 228 boxers have registered for the championship that comprises of 51 women and 177 men participating across 5 categories such as Cadet (6 girls & 20 boys), Sub Junior (16 girls & 67 boys), Junior (9 girls & 40 boys), Youth (10 women & 13 men) and Elite (10 women & 37 men) respectively.

Speaking at the press briefing here on Friday, Pramod Acharya, Editor, Prudent Media said, “We are helping Goa Boxing Association (GBA) with its State Boxing Championship so that we can provide maximum visibility to our state boxers. We at Prudent believe in sports being a key factor in social change and would want to facilitate and channelise State Boxing Association’s work to its optimum level in order to grow the sport of boxing in Goa and develop high-level talents for India. We also feel that the visibility through our help will get these talents noticed by corporates, who are important stake-holders in shaping up the potential champions by providing state of the art infrastructure and training support.”

A prestigious tournament such as this in the state of Goa will not only help scout for potential boxers but will also be a stepping stone for all those boxers who will be considered for various National Trials, National Games, and other important championships.

“As someone who has grown up with Boxing all over the place, I am delighted that this year we have Prudent Media on board to help Goa Boxing Association take forward its vision of making known champions, taking boxers across the demography of Goa and more importantly up the level of competition and organisation,” says Danuska Da Gama, Secretary, Goa Boxing Association.

Prudent Media have been the leaders in sports coverage since their inception and took its sports initiative one step higher by organising a Season-ball Cricket Tournament at GCA Academy Ground three years back followed by putting a Tennis-ball (hardball) Cricket Tournament at Campal Ground, in the subsequent year.

Hemant Nagvenkar, Treasurer, GBA said, “With Prudent Media taking the initiative to promote the game of boxing in Goa, we at GBA are changing gears and it looks like this dream will come through soon of making boxing a known and well spoken of sport. More and more youngsters will take up this game, boxing will become popular in villages and talukas.”

For the first time ever Goa Boxing Association will be introducing a computerised scoring during the championship along with officials from Maharashtra and Services present will ensure neutrality throughout the tournament.

International medalist Nikhat Zareen will be the special guest for the finals which will be held on 7th March 2020.
