Goa Khabar:A Food distribution drive was carried out by Students council of Goa dental college and hospital successfully from 31st May – 4th June
for the underprivileged and homeless wherein a total of 1100 nutritious meals and 246 reusable cloth masks were provided to the needy who are worst hit by the lockdown.
Dr Ridhima Gaunkar (Asst. Prof, Public Health Dentistry)Cultural advisor, Students Council said, “Coronavirus pandemic meant more than just a switch to online classes for our students – they were also separated from non-academic activities and interactions like sports , annual events and fun week that take place on campus.”
CoVid protocol was followed during distribution, including sanitisation of hands of meal recipients.
246 re-usable cloth masks were also provided to individuals not having face coverings.
“When the second surge of CoVid hit, it was important to raise awareness amongst the less educated/slum dwellers about covid, vaccination. That’s how we began the drive in Margao along with dedicated volunteers like Kai Dosta, Gian George and Zeeyan Panheiro.
When we noted that the need for food was acute, I approached GDC and worked out a plan to carry out the activity via the students council.
As always, GDC proved to be an institution of integrity and lived up to its motto of serving others,” said Kashyap Bandodkar.
Every food drive was accompanied by an awareness activity where groups of people were addressed regarding the signs and symptoms of CoVid, CoVid appropriate behaviour, importance of early testing and encouraging them to take the vaccine.
Volunteer Kai Dcosta mentioned, “Belonging to the same volunteer group working for CoVid relief, when I heard that Kashyap was putting together a special food and awareness drive for the homeless, I couldn’t think of a reason not to be part of it. Thank you GDC for making me part of this wonderful act of giving”
