Goakhabar FC Goa’s home grown stars Laxmikant Kattimani, Seriton Fernandes, Brandon Fernandes, Liston Colaco and Ali Mohammed brought the curtains down on FC Goa’s first ever Soccer School program. They participated in a tournament with all the kids on the final day and gave away certificates and footballs to all the participants.
The Soccer school was launched by FC Goa to continue building and developing young Goan talent. The school was open to girls and boys between the ages of 7 to 14.
The Soccer School, which ran for 30 days, gave children the opportunity to enjoy and learn from trained grassroots coaches from Forca Goa Foundation. Keeping in mind FC Goa’s unique possession based playing style, a special training plan was put together for the Soccer School by Derrick Pereira.
The children went through passing, shooting and defending sessions over the course of the program. Match days were conducted at the end of every week so that children could put their knowledge into practice in a match situations.
First team players regularly joined in for the training and match days and even gave sessions to the children on healthy eating habits and discipline.
Said Jill Ferguson, Managing Director, Forca Goa Foundation,  Programs like these re-inforce our vision and belief that Goa has incredible amount of talent, that if tapped and developed properly, can become world class athletes
Christiano has really enjoyed this camp and it has been a good experience for me as well as a parent said Vailankina Dias Coelho.
This camp was really good and I looked forward to coming for training in the morning. I learnt a lot of new things and made lots of new friends said Naomi Viegas from Manovikas High School, Margao
The Soccer School got a fantastic response with over 120 children turning up at both the training centres. FC Goa is looking to build on this enthusiasm and continue to provide high quality training opportunities for young children to grow and develop as footballers.
