Sessions Court sentences 02 accused for life imprisonment in 2018 murder case of restaurant owner at Candolim.

Goa Khabar : Sessions Court Mapusa has sentenced both accused persons involved to life imprisonment in the murder case of restaurant owner Mr. Vishwajeet Singh.
The case is of August 2018 wherein on 07/08/2018 the deceased had lodged a complaint against one of his employee  person Mr. Umesh Lamani R/o Candolim – Goa for stealing his m/cycle of make Royal Enfield Bullet and not returning back. Upset over the complaint the accused person along with another accused person Mr. Daya Shankar Sahu N/o Madhya Pradesh  had stabbed the deceased victim to death using sharp knife and sword during the midnight hours at the parking area of the deceased apartments at Candolim.
The accused persons were arrested from Karnataka by then Calangute Police Inspector Jivba Dalvi and the case was investigated thoroughly which included recovery of weapons of assault, identification of witnesses and evidences and seizure of valuable CCTV footages and finally a chargesheet was filed in the same year itself.
The bail applications of the accused persons were rejected many times during the trial. The court examined 42 witnesses and digital evidence.
Further after 06 years of trial and examination of all witnesses, CCTV and scientific evidences the Sessions Court announced life imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 50,000/- for both accused persons for committing murder under section 302 of IPC and 03 years imprisonment for offences under section 5 R/w 27 of Arms Act.
The investigation team consisted of DySP Jivba Dalvi (then Police Inspector of Calangute Police Station), PSI Sitaram Malik, PSI Mahesh Naik, ASI Subhash Malvankar and other staff.
The prosecution of the case was conducted by PP Anuradha Talaulikar, PP Jennifer Santamaria and PP Roy D’Souza.
The judgement was pronounced by Hon’ble District Judge Smt. Sharmila Patil.
