Discussion on “Drug regulation in India” at ICG on Oct 26

Goa Khabar : The International Centre Goa (ICG) has organized a discussion on the topic of “Drug regulation in India, policies and prescriptions” at the ICG on Saturday, October 26 at 6pm. This event,which is free and open to the public is part of ICG’s discussion forum series.

The three experts participating in the discussion include Dinesh Singh Thakur, founder and president of the Thakur Family Foundation, a philanthropic organisation that provides grants for research on public health and health journalism in India, Prashant Reddy, a lawyer and
Ganadhish Kamat, a technical consultant with the Boston Consulting Group. The discussion will be moderated by Dr Pushkar, director, ICG.

 

Thakur had turned whistleblower against Ranbaxy, the pharma major afterwitnessing large-scale data fraud at the company. His efforts led to Ranbaxy pleading guilty in 2013 to violating American laws and settling for a penalty of $500 million dollars as part of its guilty plea.Since
2014, Dinesh has advocated for reform of India’s colonial-era, Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 and founded an advocacy group called the ‘Citizens for Affordable, Safe and Effective Medicine’ (CASEM).

Reddy studied law at the National Law School of India in Bengaluru and the Stanford Law School. After a stint in the litigation teams of two Delhi-based law firms specializing in intellectual property law, he worked in academia and think tanks in India and Singapore.More
recently, he has been advising Dinesh Thakur in his advocacy campaign for the reform of drug regulatory law in India.

Kamat, who is Goa based is a technical consultant with the Boston Consulting Group and has previously worked with several leading pharmaceutical companies like Dr Reddy’s Labs, Lupin, Sandoz and Ranbaxy.
