Goa Khabar: In the 5th edition of ACL, around 180 advocates from across the entire state of Goa are competing in the Advocates Cricket League. The league commenced at Dharbandora on 17th and 18th February. It will continue from tomorrow, February 22 at G.C.A Porvorim to be played till 24th, with finals slated for the 25th of February 2024 under lights in the evening.
The cricket tournament is of T-20 format founded by Advocate Iftikhar Agha and supported by his Associates and Colleagues.
After 4 successive editions, the 5th edition of the Advocates Cricket League T20, organised by a group of Lawyers and constant support by Senior Advocate Mr. Saresh Lotlikar in Goa, kicked off on Saturday, February 17.
Ten teams namely: Stars, Hurricanes, Lawyer’s Challengers, Royal 11, Mapusa Troopers, Vintage Mapusa, Risers Panjim, Panjim Rockers, 18 Juners, and United Brothers are competing in the League.
The knock-out stages were played on 17th and 18th, with four teams facing eliminators and two teams joining the league.
Founded by Advocate Iftikhar Agha, the Cricket League for Advocates in Goa, was unique in terms of team composition. “Each team consisted of 11 players, but it was essential to have at least three players above the age of 35 years and two above 40 years of age,” mentioned Agha. That year, 180 Advocate players competed in the T20 format Tournament.
“There were a few former Ranji players and players who had represented Goa who participated in the Advocates Cricket League,” informed Agha. Achit Singvan (Ranji), Sachin Sardessai (State), Subodth Kantak, Sr. Advocate Vithalraj Sangodkar, Dattaprasad Shirodkar, Sahish Mahmbrey, Sandeep D’Mello and Russel Pinto are some of the many players participating in the league that make it all the more exciting.
All teams owned by Advocates who love the sport and have players from across the State participating. Founded in 2019, Agha, who had previously played for the Goa Lawyers team and other teams/franchises in Goa and in India, wanted to unite his fraternity and give back to the profession and colleagues who had supported his Cricket endeavors previously.
