USA’s Marissa Murphy and Udupi’s Sachin Poojary win 20 Miler race, while Goa’s Sapna Patel and Ratnagiri’s Siddesh Barje win half marathons
Goa Khabar: Ratnagiri’s Nilesh Kulaye won the prestigious men’s full marathon race ( 42kms) at the 13th SKF Goa river marathon clocking an impressive 2:49:33 hours, while Urmila Bani of Mumbai won the women’s full marathon in 4:15:25 hours.
In the newly introduced, 20 Miler race ( 32kms) USA’s Marissa Murphy won in the women’s category with an impressive timing of 2:44:19 hrs, while Udupi’s Sachin Poojary won the men’s category in 1:57:51 hrs.
Ratnagiri was once again among the medals, when Siddesh Barje won the men’s half marathon in 1:13:24 hrs and Goa’s Sapna Patel won the women’s half marathon in 1:35:26 hrs.
Nilesh Kulaye, who has been a podium finisher for the last three years said, “Running up the Chicalim hill two times becomes challenging and cuts our timing, otherwise it is an excellent route.”
While Sapna Patel, who represents Goa in 5000 metres and 10,000 metres races said, “I am very happy to win the half marathon, as I have been practicing very hard.”
The annual event received a very good response once again with several marathoners coming from places as distant as USA, UK, Netherlands, Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Pune and Thane.
Murgaon high school, Vasco won the 5km team event in the boys category, while Vidya Vihar school won the 5km team event in the girls category.
