Five Goan boxers enter semi-finals of National Games

Goa Khabar:On the fifth day of the ongoing boxing matches of the 37th National Games, seven boxers from Goa competed in the quarterfinals of their respective weight categories. Five of them punched their way into the semi-finals, while two lost their bouts.

 

In the Elite Men 54-57kg Feather, Goa’s Prahlad Panda put up a brave fight against Maharashtra’s Rushikesh Goud, but lost by a score of 4:1. Panda lost the first round, but made a good comeback in the second round. However, he could not overcome the lead of his opponent and bowed out of the tournament.

In the Elite Men 75-80kg Light Heavy, Goa’s Lokesh delivered an outstanding performance and defeated Punjab’s Arshpreet Singh by a unanimous decision of 5:0. Lokesh used his superior techniques and speed to dominate the bout and secure his place in the semi-finals.

In the Elite Men 86-92kg Heavy, Goa’s Ayush Sai also advanced to the semi-finals with a convincing win over Delhi’s Harsh Rana. Sai used his hard blows to unsettle his opponent and won the bout by a comfortable margin.

 

In the Elite Men 92+kg Super Heavy, Goa’s Gaurav Chouhan emerged victorious by defeating Haryana’s Sumit Rangi. Chouhan gave an outstanding performance and won by RSC (Referee Stop Contest) in the second round. He overwhelmed his opponent with his power and aggression

In Elite Women 57-60kg Light, Goa’s Niharika also made it to the semi-finals by defeating Kerala’s Greeta Saji by a unanimous decision of 5:0. She played well and showed good footwork along with her punches. She outboxed her opponent and earned the judges’ nod.

 

In Elite Women 63-66kg Welter, Goa’s Shrisha Jampula lost to Punjab’s Komalpreet Kaur. Jampula gave a good performance, but she could not match the stamina and strength of her opponent. She will need to work on her endurance and skills for the future.

 

In Elite Women 70-75kg Middle, Goa’s Sanamacha Chanu defeated MP’s Jigyasa Rajput. She did well and displayed good technique and footwork. She also showed good presence of mind and exploited the weaknesses of her opponent.

 

With today’s victory, five boxers from Goa have qualified for the semi-finals of the National Games and are one step closer to winning the medals for their state. On November 6, four other boxers will fight to secure their spot in the semi-finals. Goa’s Sakshi will face Isha Thakur from Himachal Pradesh. AK Roshanzamir will get in the ring against Kailesh Krishna from Sikkim. Goa’s Akash Gorkha will face Sandeep Doni from Andhra Pradesh. Goa’s Rajat will fight Maharashtra’s MD Rahil to secure his spot in the semifinals.
