IPRS secures a Decree against Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), Panaji, Goa, for Infringement of Copyright

Goa Khabar: The Indian Performing Right Society Limited (IPRS), a registered Copyright Society administering the public performance and communication to the public rights for lyrics and musical composition for authors of lyrics, music composers/ directors and music companies has secured a decree/final judgement against Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), Panaji, Goa.

 

The CEO of the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) at IFFI organized “Kingfisher Village” programme in which musical work with different bands, DJ’s and dance troupe performed live songs wherein several works belonging to repertoire of IPRS were communicated to the public without a license from IPRS. Shri Cholu M. Gauns, Ad-hoc District Judge-1, Panaji after hearing the counsel for IPRS  stating that “they are permanently restrained from infringing the copyright of IPRS in any musical works by holding any concerts under umbrella of IFFI or any other such events at Kingfisher Village in public”.

It was proved that IPRS is the owner of the copyright of all the songs played during the event. To play those songs, licence was mandatory. With the result, it is ordered that the Entertainment Society of Goa shall pay to IPRS, a sum of Rs.5,77,500/- towards the royalty /licence fee.
