The BJP Govt lacks interest in promoting fishing and working for the fishing community-Venzy

CM’s assurances to fishing community are nothing but hollow promises-Venzy

Goa Khabar:Aam Aadmi Party Benaulim MLA Captain Venzy Viegas today met with local fishermen and officials from the fisheries and sewerage dept from Benaulim Constituency to discuss future fish loading facilities at Colva Fisheries area. Capt Venzy promised fishermen that al their concerns and suggestions would be heard and collated so that the new facilities actually serve those who need them.

Venzy met at local fishermen at the Colva Fisheries along with officials from the fisheries dept & sewerage dept. These fishermen have been traditionally trying to load their fishing trucks at the Colva Longuinho fishing beach. Due to this more trucks have started to come to Longuinho fishing beach due to which there has been an effluent that has been discharged. Fishermen have asked for a permanent solution for this to be relocated into the fisheries dept area. Which means an area must be demarked in the Fisheries area so that loading activities can take place with a drainage system with a filter in place so that the sand doesn’t enter into the pipeline that leads to the STP plant.

Capt Venzy also highlighted that he has been proposing a project to help fishermen, fish vendors and those making nets amongst others along with a fisheries museum, fishing canoe parking, repair unit, fishing net sale area since 2019 under the banner of Niz Raponkarancha Ekvott. He had proposed a 4000 SQ meter of land from the Tourism Dept for the same.

The fishing community of Goa especially Benaulim is struggling due to lack of attention of the fisheries dept. The training wall is one pending issue from the Central Govt which has been raised in the assembly several times. There has been no storage facilities at every fish landing and loading sections, there are no sufficient landing and loading stations all across Benaulim and Goa. All the fishermen huts across the coastal belt do not have electricity connections which have been raised in the Assembly. The CM assurances on this issue have all been empty promises. Venzy also stated that fishermen should get easy access of fuel in a ATM system where pre-paid cards need to be issued to them to avail their subsidy.
