Goa Khabar: A state-level ‘Fort-Making Competition’ is being organised on the occasion of the upcoming Diwali festival with the objective of creating awareness about valour among the youth, informed the Akhil Gomantak Shiv Premi Sanghatana at a press conference held here. The press conference was attended by Organising Committee Vice-President Mr. Rajendra Desai, Secretary Mr. Satyavijay Naik, Treasurer Mr. Aniket Desai, along with Mr. Sujay Desai, Mr. Manoj Gaonkar, Mr. Ichhit Phaldessai, Mr. Jayesh Thali and Suchendra Agni.
The office-bearers of the organisation said, “The forts built and conquered by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj are an inspiration for every Indian even today and stand as testimony to valour, courage and sacrifice. This glorious history must reach every youngster. With this objective, Shiv Premi, history and art enthusiasts from Goa have come together under the banner of the ‘Akhil Gomantak Shiv Premi Sanghatana’ to organise the State-Level ‘Fort-Making Competition’ on the occasion of Diwali. The competition is being organised jointly by the Akhil Gomantak Shiv Premi Sanghatana, Akhil Gomantak Kshatriya Maratha Samaj and the Directorate of Archaeology, Government of Goa. The ‘Fort-Making Competition’ will be conducted in two categories — community and individual household. The community-level competition will be held at the district level in North Goa, South Goa and Kushavati, while the individual household-level competition will be conducted at the taluka level. Prizes will also be awarded at the respective district and taluka levels.
For the community-level competition, the fort must have a minimum area of 4 square metres. The first prize will be Rs. 50,000, second prize Rs. 30,000, third prize Rs. 20,000, along with five consolation prizes of Rs. 5,000 each. The registration fee for the community-level competition is Rs. 100 per entry. For the individual household-level competition, the fort must have a maximum area of 1 square metre. The first prize will be Rs. 5,000, second prize Rs. 4,000, third prize Rs. 3,000, along with three consolation prizes of Rs. 2,000 each. The registration fee for the individual household-level competition is Rs. 50 per entry. The last date for registration is November 7, the deadline for completing the fort is November 14, and judging will be conducted from November 15 to 21.
