₹15 Lakh for Death, ₹7.5 Lakh for Permanent Disability
Goa Khabar: The Government of Goa has revised the compensation payable in cases of death, permanent disability and injuries caused by wild animals, substantially enhancing financial assistance available to victims and their families.
The Goa Forest Department issued a notification dated September 22, 2026, partially modifying its earlier notification dated April 24, 2020, under the “Scheme for grant of compensation on account of loss of human life, permanent disability or injury caused by Wild Animals.”
Under the revised rates, an ex-gratia compensation of ₹15 lakh will be provided in the event of a person’s death caused by a wild animal attack.
For victims suffering permanent disability, including loss of a limb, eye or similar permanent impairment, the government has fixed compensation at ₹7.50 lakh.
The revised scheme also provides compensation for injuries that do not result in permanent disability. A person sustaining a minor injury will be eligible for ₹50,000, while compensation of ₹2 lakh will be provided in cases of grievous injury or partial disability.
The classification of grievous injury or partial disability will be subject to certification by a Government doctor, with the compensation determined according to the category of injury.
Revised Compensation Rates
Death due to wild animal attack: ₹15,00,000
Permanent disability: ₹7,50,000
Minor injury: ₹50,000
Grievous injury/partial disability: ₹2,00,000
The Forest Department has clarified that the latest notification revises the compensation specifically for loss of human life, permanent disability and injuries.
However, the compensation rates for loss of cattle or property due to wild animal attacks, as well as the related terms and conditions, will remain unchanged and will continue to be governed by the April 24, 2020 notification.
The order has been issued with the concurrence of the Finance (Expenditure) Department and has been signed by Sitaram Gurudas Sawal, Under Secretary (Forest), Government of Goa.
The notification has also been forwarded to the Government Printing Press for publication in the next issue of the Official Gazette.
