Goa Khabar: The NSS Unit and Counselling Cell of the Goa College of Agriculture, Ela Farm, Old Goa, organised a drug awareness programme on the theme “Say No to Drugs, Yes to Life” on August 22, 2026, to sensitise students about the harmful effects of drug abuse.

Superintendent of Police Jivba G. Dalvi attended the programme as the resource person. Also present on the dais were Dr. Suresh Kunkolienkar, Principal and Dean of Goa College of Agriculture; Mrs. Nikita Rao, College Counsellor; and Dr. Sagar Palconda, College Director of Physical Education and Sports.

The programme began with the traditional lighting of the lamp. Ms. Dhriti welcomed the gathering, while Mrs. Nikita Rao introduced the resource person. Dr. Suresh Kunkolienkar addressed the students and stressed the importance of staying away from drugs.

During his session, SP Jivba Dalvi spoke about the consequences of involvement in drug-related activities and explained the stringent punishments prescribed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. He also shared real-life cases handled by the Goa Crime Branch to make students aware of the serious consequences of drug abuse and trafficking.

Dalvi urged young people not to fall prey to peer pressure or social media influence and encouraged them to report drug-related activities to the police without fear.

He assured the students that the identity of anyone reporting such activities would be kept strictly confidential. The interaction also sought to remove fear about approaching the police and build trust between students and law enforcement.

Dalvi told the students that reporting drug abuse should not be viewed as complaining, but as an effort to stop drug abuse and protect the nation and future generations. He reiterated the message, “Say No to Drugs, Yes to Life.”

Ms. Bhumi proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was organised by Dr. Sagar Palconda, Mr. Sandesh Velip and Mrs. Nikita Rao and was attended by a large number of students and faculty members.
